🌧️ RALLY REPORT: The Great Ludham Washout (and Win!)

North Essex Centre | Manor Lodge Caravan Park, Ludham, Norfolk

Our first-ever visit to Manor Lodge Caravan Park in Ludham was certainly unforgettable! It turns out we hadn't spent quite enough time on our knees praying to the weather gods before setting off. Mother Nature decided to treat our 14 caravans and motorhomes to a daily spectacular of rain, thunder, lightning, and even a few rounds of hailstones just to keep us on our toes!

Thankfully, the field itself was exceptionally neat, and we had a secret weapon: an on-site marquee. It became our evening sanctuary—even if the drumming of the torrential rain on the canvas meant we practically had to shout to hear each other's jokes!

🏆 The Resilience Awards goes to...

A massive shout-out and well done to our fantastic Marshals: John & Val and Les & Jackie. Lesser mortals might have thrown in the towel, but their true British resilience shone right through the storm clouds. They kept the rally vibe alive and kicking all week with a superb lineup of events:

  • 🍰 A wonderful Tea & Cakes afternoon

  • 🔢 A high-stakes, hilarious game of Bingo

  • 🧀 A sophisticated (and dry!) Cheese & Biscuit evening

  • 🍖 A brilliant Roast Carvery booked at the local pub

  • 🐟 A grand finale Fish & Chip supper on Friday night

🧭 Out & About (Braving the Elements!)

When we weren't huddled in the marquee, we discovered that Ludham is a absolute gem of a village. It boasts a superb local butcher, a great village store, and an ice cream parlour (optimistic, but we loved it!).

A lovely 10-minute walk took us down to Womack Staithe, where we found a charming small marina, a coffee shop, and—crucially—the pub. Yes, we absolutely braved the rain to get there! For those looking to explore further afield, the local bus stop was just a few minutes away, whisking folks off to Potter Heigham and Great Yarmouth.

☀️ The Verdict?

Typical British weather? Absolutely. Did it stop the fun? Not a chance!

We will definitely be back next year. In the meantime, the hunt is officially on to buy some heavy-duty knee pads in readiness for 2027. We now have exactly one year to get back on our knees and firmly remind the sun that June is supposed to be summer!

 Event 27 : 4th-6th July 2025 For those that were wondering......  A “Dirty Weekend in Weely” was all about the film Dirty Dancing. Those that thought otherwise, you were so wrong!! In a changed venue to that originally advertised, Grange Farm at Thorpe-Le-Soken is a new site for us.  Set well away from any roads with just a train line in the distance, this lovely country side location is comprising of many acres nestled amongst crop growing farm land.  It hosts three separate ‘camping’ areas, these are “Oak”, Cherry Trees” and Brambles.  All were very well maintained with new and very clean toilet and shower blocks.  All pitches as far as I could see had EHU. Although a commercial site, it still has that small feeling and of being secluded in the wonderful Essex countryside.   A Wonka New Year 29th December—2nd January 2025 Trinity Park—Suffolk Show Ground Never attended this teams New Year event? If you have ever organised an event for a club you know just how much work goes into making it happen.   So imagine an average club weekend then quadruple, quintuple or sextuple it.   Somewhere within those figures you will arrive at the 120+ units and 240+ people that attended this event.    It adds a whole new meaning to putting the kettle/urn on for tea or coffee for the attendees! The organisation that goes into to planning such an event is huge.   The work required by the back room office team for just handling bookings, dietary requirements and catering supplies must be immense.   This is not to mention the list of jobs ‘to do’ ranging from liaising with the venue to booking entertainment.   I am not sure a summary of the effort required would ever do justice to their input and work.   It is best just than...
