Little Easton Manor
Just back from a long early bank holiday weekend at Little Easton Manor in Great Dunmow.
Sometimes you forget just what a picturesque County we live in.
There are some exceptional places in Essex such as Finchingfield in the middle and Audley End to the North of the county.
But sometimes there are little Gems that are just tucked away that you would never find unless you explored a little further.
Little Easton Manor is one such place, these buildings and grounds date back to before Roman times and it is a grade 2 listed building.
There are other fascinating buildings and a church to explore all within walking distance.
We are very fortunate to have this as an event in our rally
calendar, especially as our pitches overlook the wonderful manor lake and
across to the Manor House itself.
Our Marshals this weekend where Linda and Bart assisted by Pam.
They were extremely welcoming and worked hard to make sure
we enjoyed ourselves.
Saturday morning we were treated with BLT rolls with whatever sauce that you
would like to have on them, The afternoon they provided refreshments and a
plethora of cakes as we sat around chatting about the wonderful weather and how
lovely the site was. One down side was that it was noted that the lemon drizzle
cake was not very nice by Barry W and nobody else should eat it other than him.
Needless to say that created a run on the lemon drizzle cake which incidentally was very nice and moreish!
With a light-hearted chocolate themed quiz in the evening and a walk to the pub on Sunday for a roast if you wanted the weekend was certainly packed with things to do.
It was noticeable that there has been a lot of new investment in this venue, with very active tea rooms a licenced bar and full food menus for example. Many walkers and day trippers were enjoying the surroundings,
On Sunday there was a vintage car show, which attracted very many people, the place was buzzing with activity from 10:00 a.m. in the morning to 2pm in the afternoon.
Some of the vintage cars in attendance were icons in the vintage car world and attracted professional photographers eager to capture a winning picture of these cars in the beautiful surroundings of the Manor.
Also on Sunday a couple of our members decided to fish the lake which historically has been very poor with just few small fish to catch. However things have changed a lot as the owners invest to make it a more attractive to a wider audience. It was good to see several large fish being caught, the largest was a very good condition 20lb carp, well done Steve A!
To finish, a fun Chinese auction was provided on Sunday evening after thanks were given via flag. The usual fun of passing the prizes was had which capped a very full and entertaining bank holiday weekend.
Thank you marshals!
If you have never been to this venue I would strongly recommend booking on
next year to enjoy the surroundings.
Things change and one day this venue may no longer be
available, so please enjoy it while its there.
