A Dirty Weekend in Weely

Image
Event 27 : 4th-6th July 2025 For those that were wondering......  A “Dirty Weekend in Weely” was all about the film Dirty Dancing. Those that thought otherwise, you were so wrong!! In a changed venue to that originally advertised, Grange Farm at Thorpe-Le-Soken is a new site for us.  Set well away from any roads with just a train line in the distance, this lovely country side location is comprising of many acres nestled amongst crop growing farm land.  It hosts three separate ‘camping’ areas, these are “Oak”, Cherry Trees” and Brambles.  All were very well maintained with new and very clean toilet and shower blocks.  All pitches as far as I could see had EHU. Although a commercial site, it still has that small feeling and of being secluded in the wonderful Essex countryside. There are some nice little touches of model birds dotted around all three sites.   Its things like this that show the owners care and make the site what it is, charming is a w...

Fun & Laughter at Fen Farm

Image
Event 26 27th-29th June 2025 On what was probably the hottest weekend of the year a small group of members attended the Fun & Laughter event at Fen Farm Hintlesham. This is another of those little hidden gems we have in our programme.   Tucked away behind a commercial fishery this venue has matured over the years into something a little bit special. With well maintained grounds and a secluded area for our event, it makes for a great place to spend the weekend.   Views across the lake with geese, herons and multiple bird songs in the air, these are just a few of the sounds and sights of our wonderful local countryside. Our marshals this weekend, Dawn & Kevin have run this event for several years now and always provide a calm and welcoming atmosphere.   With plenty of room, everyone parked with ease and quickly settled into relaxation mode. Friday evening was warm, so everyone gathered with their chairs in the open air and chatted late into the evening. ...

Last weekends programme took us to one mile outside of the beautiful and historic town of Saffron Walden.   Little Walden is a regular venue for us and usually very popular with our members.   This is another site that has improved over time. The temporary fencing has been removed to open up the rally field even further and a new toilet block has been built.   These changes although small, make a huge difference to Home Farm. With owls hooting and deer roaming in the crop field opposite you definitely get that countryside feeling. Our marshals took a relaxed approach to this weekend, the quiet and peaceful venue didn't really need much to make you enjoy it.   Sue & Barry W   stepped up to do their 1st assist and were very welcoming, its always nice to see newer members become more involved.   Thank you to you both. Steve A was our main marshal, his enthusiasm for our hobby is amazing.   He has wild plans to make what we do even more fu...

Joy wrote "It's actually nice here, there are only 65 caravans and everyone has been really friendly. They did a charity bingo Friday night, opening ceremony and refreshments yesterday morning then the dinner dance last night. Church service this morning, then refreshments and raffle draw, easy intercentre sports this afternoon, Scottish group tonight."  This was the 73rd Scottish Division National and run from 2nd to 6th May 2025.

Little Easton Manor

Just back from a long early bank holiday weekend at Little Easton Manor in Great Dunmow.  Sometimes you forget just what a picturesque County we live in. There are some exceptional places in Essex such as Finchingfield in the middle and Audley End to the North of the county.  But sometimes there are little Gems that are just tucked away that you would never find unless you explored a little further.  Little Easton Manor is one such place, these buildings and grounds date back to before Roman times and it is a grade 2 listed building.  There are other fascinating buildings and a church to explore all within walking distance. We are very fortunate to have this as an event in our rally calendar, especially as our pitches overlook the wonderful manor lake and across to the Manor House itself.  Our Marshals this weekend where Linda and Bart assisted by Pam. They were extremely welcoming and worked hard to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. Saturday morning we were tre...
