Fun & Laughter at Fen Farm

Event 26

27th-29th June 2025

On what was probably the hottest weekend of the year a small group of members attended the Fun & Laughter event at Fen Farm Hintlesham.

This is another of those little hidden gems we have in our programme.  Tucked away behind a commercial fishery this venue has matured over the years into something a little bit special.

With well maintained grounds and a secluded area for our event, it makes for a great place to spend the weekend.  Views across the lake with geese, herons and multiple bird songs in the air, these are just a few of the sounds and sights of our wonderful local countryside.

Our marshals this weekend, Dawn & Kevin have run this event for several years now and always provide a calm and welcoming atmosphere.  With plenty of room, everyone parked with ease and quickly settled into relaxation mode.

Friday evening was warm, so everyone gathered with their chairs in the open air and chatted late into the evening.  The temperature seem to rise even has the hours past and day turned into night.

Saturday morning was the fishing match for those that wanted to take part.  Anglers walked just a few meters from their caravans/motorhomes and took their places on one side of the lake.  The waters were calm, still and inviting for those that fished.  Soon floats were bobbing and fish were being caught.  Our marshals provided some very welcome bacon rolls which were delivered to us during the morning.  From midday Kevin volunteered to sit and help our junior which was much appreciated.

Saturday afternoon the social chatting, Fun and Laughter activities continued.  By this time the sun was blazing down and every one took shade behind Brian & Helens caravan where trees also helped provide some cover.  A few cold beverages were very welcome with Brian & Helen kindly producing crisps and snacks for us to enjoy.

Tanya & Steve thanked our marshals for running this event and gave out some club news.

Steve presented the fishing awards.  The full results are in the fishing results section.

The afternoon rolled on to early evening where we gathered our BBQ’s for a communal braai! Dining tables were placed in a line and set for dinner.

At this point I must mention Brian's new BBQ.  Most of us by now have purchased something from that cheap Chinese online shop. As you will know, sometimes things look larger in the pictures than they actually are.  Brian's new BBQ would have made a dolls house proud.  Taking a total of 4 pieces of charcoal there was just room to cook 2 sausages and a piece of chicken.  There was even space to place a kettle on the chimney, however asking for it to boil a kettle after cooking food was a step too far!!

It all made for some good Fun & Laughter.

We settled down and enjoyed our al fresco meal in the setting sun.

More chatting, a light quiz and some after dinner drinks were had,  all making for an evening of Fun & Laughter.

Over night the heat was extreme with people up early and sitting outside to get some early morning fresh air.

Even if you have no interest in fishing, this is a lovely place to visit.

Make a note to book on for next years event.
