Fishing Joys at Little Walden
A Glorious Weekend at Home Farm, Little Walden
Caravan & Motorhome Rally Report
From the moment the first vans rolled through the gates of Home Farm, Little Walden, we knew we were in for a special weekend. The sun was already blazing across the lake, casting a golden shimmer that made every pitch feel like a prime holiday spot. By 4pm, the rally field was neatly lined with two proud rows of caravans and motorhomes, all enjoying that picture‑perfect lakeside view.
🎣 Friday Evening: Peg Pull & Pre‑Match Buzz
At 7pm, everyone gathered around Steve and Tanya’s motorhome for the eagerly awaited peg pull. With nine keen anglers ready for Saturday’s match, the excitement was almost as bright as the evening sunshine. Strategies were whispered, lucky hats were adjusted, and Steve was already rummaging around for his whistle… which, as we later discovered, was nowhere to be found.
🎣 Saturday: The Closest Match We’ve Ever Seen
At 9am, the shout went out to begin — not from a whistle, but from Steve’s best attempt at a loud rallying call.
What followed was one of the tightest angling matches in rally history.
By the halfway mark, the scoreboard was a nail‑biter:
Six anglers still waiting for their first catch
The top three separated by only a handful of tiny silver fish
And a crowd of spectators enjoying the sunshine, the suspense, and the gentle chaos
Then came the final hour — and everything changed.
Steve, clearly inspired by the pressure, landed a small carp that nudged him into contention. Barry wasn’t giving up easily, but in the last quarter‑hour, Steve hooked the match‑winning carp of 6lb, sealing his victory with style.
🏆 Final Results
1st — Steve Allen, 8lb 4oz 2nd — Barry Wells, 4lb 8oz 3rd — Steve Martin, ½ oz
The winner proudly received an engraved pint glass memento, while 2nd and 3rd place were rewarded with plaques and a selection of baits — perfect for future rematches.
🍽️ Saturday Evening: A Feast at The Crown
With spirits high and the sun still shining, all 21 ralliers made their way to The Crown pub for a 6pm pre‑booked sit‑down meal in the back room. The food was superb, the drinks flowed, and the laughter echoed long into the evening.
A highlight of the night was Rob, our past chairman and committee member, giving a warm presentation and flag — a lovely touch that rounded off the evening beautifully.
☀️ Sunday: Sunshine, Relaxation & Fond Farewells
Sunday greeted us with brilliant sunshine, the kind that makes you want to sit outside with a cup of tea and simply breathe it all in. With an early flag, everyone enjoyed a relaxed, unhurried morning, packing away at their own pace and soaking up the last of the weekend warmth.
🙏 Thank‑You
A heartfelt thank‑you to our marshals: Steve & Tanya, Sue & Barry — your hard work made the weekend run effortlessly.
And an even bigger thank‑you to all our ralliers, whose good humour, camaraderie, and sunshine‑bright spirits made this a truly memorable rally.
Here’s to many more weekends just like this — full of fun, friendship, and a little friendly competition.
Next fishing event is Hintlesham 10th-12th July.
