A Meal at Waldegraves

Event 10

Mersea Island -13th-15th March 2026

Finally after a long winter, the sun came out just in time for our visit to Waldegraves on Mersea Island.

Your journey through Colchester eventually brings you to The Strood causeway, the only way on and off of the island.  It is thought this was built around AD 700 by the Anglo Saxons, it’s a good job they did otherwise we would never have arrived on the rally on time and may have even been a bit wet!

Even though we visited this venue just 3 years ago, the improvements Waldegraves have make are impressive.
New static/lodges now occupy the grass pitches opposite the golf course, neatly cut grass verges, trees well pruned,  making this site look fresh, clean and new.  Even the old lakes have had a make over with new hard wood edging.

All of these improvements are paying off as the site was very busy, even at this time of year.  The hard standing touring pitches were pretty much sold out and even the grass pitches up a level were also very full.  Lots of young families with children many on little bikes filled the roads adding an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment.

With EHU & water on pitch and the well maintained and very clean shower block very close by this weekend was a great way to get the caravan/motorhome in use for the coming rally season.

The main event for the weekend was the meal in the Granary, and once again the improvement this restaurant has made is very eye-catching.

The food was amazing, my haddock was hanging over both ends of the plate while the hunters chicken look homemade as delicious.  It is a great place to dine and worth the trip just for that.

With the beach just a short walk away and many foot paths to explore Waldegraves is a great place to stay.

Thank you to our marshals for organising and running this weekend : Dave & Sandy assisted by Louis, Cliff and Rachel.
