Tanya's Greek Taverna

Was well and truly open for business!
With their arms wide open this team welcomed all onto this venue with a warm embrace.

Birch Park is a long used venue for us and is situated just a few miles from Colchester Zoo.
This site has history dating back as far as 1066 although more modern buildings are 1830.  We arrived midway at 1400 😃 entering just past the old gate keepers lodge.
We already knew that the site was extremely dry due to the prolonged dry spell, so no charcoal BBQ’s this time.  A good number had booked on and the venue was quite full already, even at this early hour.

Event No : 31 18th-20th July 2025

Once settled members made their way over to the new marques with chairs, drinks and nibbles.
Straight away we noticed something new!!!
Modern technology is starting to provide equipment to enhance what we do when operating remotely i.e. with no electricity.
These relatively new rechargeable portable power stations are now available to buy from major retailers and allow you to run 12v or household electrical devices for several hours.  They can be recharged at home or by using solar panels making them ideal for rallying.  In this instance they were used to provide social entertainment in the middle of nowhere.
Our marshals used this new technology to provide video, music and lighting for the weekend.
Friday evening the marques filled quickly in Tanya’s Restaurant as people seated themselves and started catching up with others.

Mamma Mia made an appearance to keep us entertained.

Such was the warm weather and good company, many stayed long into the evening, even as the light faded to dark outside.

Overnight much needed heavy rain was forecast and it arrived just as predicted.  It rained heavily on and off through the night and into the next day only stopping in time for the main event on Saturday evening.

At 1830 Tanya’s Greek Taverna flung its doors open and the restaurant filled quickly once again.
Our members never need much of an excuse to put on fancy dress and tonight was no different.  Many brightly coloured outfits were on display, some went that extra mile and really impressed!  It made the evening come alive lighting up the occasion.

Our marshals Tanya, Steve, Lynn and Den worked tirelessly to make sure we were having a good time.  It was great to see Sue and Barry getting involved, Barry doing a great job on the gas BBQ cooking spiced Zucchini and warming pitta bread while Sue using her catering skills to help out.

Our Greek meal of starter, main and desert was fabulous and in keeping, exactly with the weekend theme.  It was a work of genius and they pulled it of brilliantly.

The ambiance created by warm lighting, decorations and soft background music gave it that authentic feel.
After the meal the tables were moved to one side and dancing commenced.  Fantastic to see so many people enjoy themselves long into the evening.

A fabulous rally/event, well done team, looking forward to next years one already!!!!
