Stonham Barns

 Event 29

11th-13th July 2025

Just 25 miles from Colchester are Stonham Barns, a quick drive up the A12 and A14 gets you there in no time.

This venue has changed massively over the years, moving on from just an Owl Sanctuary with attached camp site to something quite unique.

Long gone is the old caravan site which squeezed in as many as possible.  Now there is a new vast area which must be 25 acres at least.  It boasts two toilet/shower blocks both with washing up areas.  The camp site is probably split 50/50 with EHU on one half while the other is just field for non-EHU.

Boasting many facilities including : Tea Rooms, Café 24, Golf, Fishing, Garden Centre and a Shopping Village there is no reason to be bored on any visit.

Our marshals this weekend were Tanya & Steve and Lynn & Den who, as usual, greeted us with their warm welcome and smiles.

We were sited next to some new ralliers!

While it is always nice when new ralliers with children arrive at an event.  These new people were extremely unusual, not only was this their 1st rally, it was their first time out in a caravan, so totally new!

They were very well organised and settled in quickly.  We gave them a warm North Essex welcome… as we do 😃

On that subject there were two other young families parked behind us.  They use their caravans every weekend, go away together and visit sites across Essex.  Both are CAMC members and  neither knew anything about rallying!

Our members did our best to enlighten them on the wonderful adventures they could have with the centre and shared some information.

The weather kept up its promise of sunshine once again, although slightly cooler than previous weekends.

Friday evening many went and danced the evening away to a rockabilly band in the adjacent club house.

Saturday daytime people explored the many offering that this venue offered,  those that stayed behind gathered around the marshals caravan where much chatting and laughter took place.  Saturday evening everyone attended a communal BBQ where Louise thanked the marshals and gave event news.

Steve and his grandson went and tested the fishing lake and caught a big-un!  Looks like  this might be a new fishing venue next year.

Well done marshals, another lovely weekend.

Tanya strikes a pose……
