Why Not Fish? - Rally 28

Why Not Fish? - Rally 28

Borowaters, Southminster, 26th-28th July 2024.

Always happy to attend this rally, its central location on the Dengie peninsular makes it a great base for exploring the local seaways and estuaries.

The rally location is well off the road and offers enough room to host 100 caravans or motorhomes if needed.

With its two lakes and spacious pitches it is a rally I always book if possible.

In fact, its so enjoyable we usually book on their CL for a few days beforehand then join up with the rally on the Friday.

Our marshals for this weekend were Dawn & Kevin and Lynn & Den, they have being running this rally for many years and always do an excellent job.

As usual, Friday evening we received a warm welcome and settled into our pitch.

Once settled, Brian & Helen invited everyone over for some drinks and nibbles outside their caravan.  This couple make great hosts, the circle of chairs around their nibbles table grew and grew as more people dropped in.

Chat went on into the night as the weather was really kind to us.

Saturday the main reason for the rally took place : fishing!

We had booked the whole lake for the day to run our club competition.

It was decided that due to the size of the carp in the lake, every one caught should be weighed and returned to the water as quickly as possible.   This would mean that someone needed to run with the weighing scales to any point around the lake at any time.

This task was given to Den who was ambushed (surprisingly easily) into doing it.

Very soon the shout went out, fish on!, Den set off at speed like Usain Bolt over hurdles.

1st fish weighed and returned to the water.

Den had just sat down when another call went up from the other end of the lake and off went Den again!

This set the tone for the day with Den back and forth with the weighing net.  His endeavours earned him the nick name of ‘Den the Net’ or Anette for short.

Midway through the match, two lovely ladies arrived at each swim with very welcomed bacon rolls to keep us sustained.

I think Den was glad when the final whistle went after six hours to signal the end of the match as he was starting to slow up 😅

Den definitely earned his beer this day!

Great to see everyone who took part catch, our chairman weighed in 40+lb to take top spot, well done Kevin.

Saturday evening was communal BBQ time, this is always popular and today was no different.

Tables were set in a line as people socialised cooked and ate Al fresco.

Tanya took flag and awarded an emotional Andy W with his 300th rally plaque.

A wonderful few days away, loved every minute of it….

Looking forward to next year already!

Rob
