Event 50H 28th September - 5th October 2025
As the season starts to fade and the sun dips below the horizon before 7pm, grabbing a last minute piece of the suns warmth makes the short trip up the A12 to Sizewell well worth while.
The Beach View Caravan park is just on the outskirts of Leiston and set against the back drop of the beach.
Although a medium sized commercial site, it has the feel of a regular rally venue with our members sited opposite each other and well within chatting distance.
With electric hook up, modern washroom facilities and an onsite sea front drinks bar this venue is ideal for this time of year.
Our marshals Brian and Kerry assisted by James and Margaret have run this event on and off for many years. Their ability to keep us entertained throughout the week showed their experience as wonderful long serving marshals.
On arrival we were guided to our wide serviced pitch and presented with a window quiz to complete. No slacking here, straight into competition mode for the week ahead.
Based on well known songs, the idea was to draw a picture and place it in your window for other to guess the song. It quickly became apparent that some of our members were talented with a colouring pen while others took an abstract view of the song title much to the puzzlement of those trying to solve the song.
Which ever way you looked at it, it made people chat as they walked from window to window trying to guess the song.
Any self respecting fish would not been seen within a mile of Mr Seal. Luckily the weather was kind and the view out to sea made it an enjoyable experience.
Tuesday morning saw Brian's beautiful bangers being tossed about on his BBQ.
It was of course breakfast for the ralliers. James diced and sliced onions, Kerry cooked them while Margaret professionally handled the buns.
Tea & Coffee followed in the warm autumn sunshine as conversations and socialising broke out.
Wednesday night was quiz night and what a quiz it was!
Singo bingo had people singing and laughing, the marshals danced on and off during the evening, the Hockey Cokey was performed with an energy that many envied. Those that had number 67 on their bingo cards were rewarded with a chocolate while the overall winners of the quiz won the star prize of… a bottle of washing up liquid!
Although a great evening, it was saddened with the news that the composer of the Hockey Cokey song had recently passed away. According to reports it took a week to fasten the coffin lid as every time they tried he put his left leg out, left leg in, in out, in out and shook it all about!
Thursday lunch time for those that were energetic enough, a walk along the coastal path to Dolphin Inn at Thorpeness took place. Walking boots and sticks at the ready and off they went.
Others not so able used the car and met at the walkers at the Inn. Refreshments and a light lunch in the gardens was in order and rounded off nicely this small adventure.
Friday our marshals had pre arranged a tour of the Sizewell power plant for those that wanted to go. Orange PPE was the order of the day as this fascinating insight to the workings of this important piece of the UK’s energy infrastructure took place. One comment was that the plant was huge, far bigger than was ever imagined.
Although warm throughout the week storm AMY moved in on Friday with rain and high winds putting a damp end to the week.
However The Vulcan arms just a short walk from the site offered a home cooked carvery on the last night of our stay. The few that booked in for a meal under their own steam were treated to a lovely meal. The Sundae's were amazing!
Well done marshals, an excellent well run rally.
