Holly and the Ivy

6th-8th December 2024

Nacton

Despite the threat of storm Darragh, 19 caravans/motorhomes made their way to Nacton to start the festivities for 2024.

If you have never been to this venue, make a point of attending an event here.  Pitched high up on the banks of the river Orwell, the views are stunning.  There are long walks down to the rivers edge, many taking you through wooded areas with an abundance of wildlife.  Well worth a walk at anytime of year.

There are two venues here at Nacton scout camp, this time we were at Ravenscroft.  This has the smaller hall of the two venues and is ideally suited to a cosy pre Christmas rally.

Every one arrived on Friday and once we set ourselves up we ventured the very short distance to the hall.  As we entered we were Instantly greeted with warm mulled wine and mince pies.  The hall had been decked with Christmas decorations to add to the cosy feel.  The North Essex post box was available for those wishing to send cards to those in attendance.

No sooner had the much enjoyed mulled wine disappeared empty glasses were refilled from a seamlessly bottomless jug.  The warm sweet wine with a hint if sharpness was very moreish indeed.

Our entertainment for this evening was a visual musical bingo, great fun for adults and children alike.  Checking off your card as you aimed for a full house was good fun however the temptation to sing to the tunes eventually became to much.  Choruses of Sweet Caroline being so good, so good, echoed for a while as people warmed to the fun that was unfolding.  All in all a very pleasant and fun evening.

Saturday Santa arrived complete with his sack!

He took up his place in the hall where the children gave Santa a list of their wishes from him for the big day itself.  Some were eagerly writing lists even as Santa entered the hall!  In return for their lists Santa gave them a small present for now.  Each opened them and were delighted with their gifts.

As the evening arrived we enjoyed a large gammon and seasonal vegetable dinner followed by desert.  Music and dancing happened as enjoyment peeked.

Saturday evening was interesting as storm Darragh blow and rained hard on us while attempting to sleep.

All added to the experience and one to talk about as we grow old :-)

A big thank you to our Marshals who worked very hard to make this weekend happen.

Thank you
