Ladies Charity Rally
Hook Farm, Mundon, August Bank Holiday 2024 :
As the Chairman enjoys his 2nd year, it is traditional that this triggers the centres charity year. The Chairman's partner chooses which charity to support. This is usually one that has had an impact on their or someone close to their life.
This year Dawn chose Little Lifts as her charity, this was a result of the much appreciated support she received personally from them very recently.
This charity provides mood boosting goodie boxes containing practical products for people who have experienced breast cancer treatment.
To help generate funds the rally was spread over the long bank holiday weekend.
Many of the hard working committee arrived on the Wednesday, well before the weekend started. There was a huge amount to do, marquees, tea urns, bottled gas, doggie outfits needed to be collected from our storage unit many miles away.
These needed to be set up assembled and made ready for use in a very short time.
Food for the breakfast, raffle and auction prizes, music equipment, bunting needed collecting and so it goes on.
All this before people started to arrive, and what a great job they did.
To complement our committee there was an army of volunteers who stepped in to help, some of these even at the last minute.
A big thank you to those as well.
There was a good attendance with 41 units on a very nice flat and well kept field. Visitors from many local centres added a diversity to the mix and made for some friendly reunions.
Almost as soon as the rally started there were things going on. Burgers, hot dogs, breakfasts and even donna kebabs were available daily with tea and cake to complement.
The programme included a dog show, fun horse racing, quiz, disco, raffle, auction, basic driving skills for juniors and a street fate.
As usual, our members and those visiting took part in everything that was put on, their support is crucial and never disappoints.
The dog show was very humorous with many entries., fancy dressed dogs, dogs performing tricks and the wiggliest tail were all on display. All made for some real fun and enjoyed by those watching.
The horse racing was also fun this featured large dice rolling for those wanting to take part. In fact all events went very well to make a great long weekend.
One of the highlights was the fate, so many people supported this with table top sales outside their caravans or motorhomes. There were bits on sale ranging from homemade cakes to soft toys and puzzles. The tombola was busy while the hand made wooden toys and freshly prepared banana splits caught the eye (and the tastebuds).
While official figures for the charity fund will be announced at the AGM, this event raised a good four figure sum towards it.
Thank you to all that took so much of their time to arrange this, also thank you so much to those that attended and contributed with their cash for this great cause.
A great event, well done all.
