Blast from the Past – Event 18H

Little Easton Manor – 3rd-6th May

We arrived on Friday to the gate being shut. Upon opening it, I could see why it was closed. The slope down into the field and the entrance was very wet and muddy; not surprising considering it had been raining all day. I could see Alan, our marshal, who told us to keep going and don't stop. Our pitch was on the end and what a beautiful spot it was. Uninterrupted views of the lake - just perfect.

Saturday we woke up to it being bright and sunny and we could already feel that it was going to be a nice day. We got up and had a full English, putting us in good stead for a walk to the pub at lunchtime.

The pub was actually only 15 minute walk away but what a gorgeous little pub it was. We all sat out it the beer garden, drinking our drinks and eating cheesy chips. The children found a garden chair swing in the corner and all managed to squeeze on, enjoying all being together. After a few drinks and a couple of hours, we walked back to the site where the children saw a park on the far side of the cricket green. Well, it would be rude not to stop and have a play around.

Once back at the site, it was time for tea and cake. There was an array of delicious cakes, my favourite was the carrot cake. Joy you are a fabulous baker. Sitting in the event tent talking to old and new friends whilst the afternoon rolled into evening, no better way to spend a Saturday. Saturday evening we were back in the event tent for a "through the decade" quiz. Between us and Brian & Kerry and our knowledge of useless information, we managed to win the quiz and a box of chocolates that were shared around the event tent. Thank you Adam and Ela for a great quiz Sunday morning the sun was shining again and it was a little bit warmer. This time we didn't have to cook breakfast, the marshals were. Bacon roll and a cup of tea chatting away in the sunshine is a great way to spend a Sunday. There was a car show on the Manor grounds. We didn't visit it but those that did said it was free entry and worth a walk around. Today was a lazy one for us. Cliff took the children back to the park and I sat in the sun keeping an eye on the pork joint that was roasting on the BBQ. Caravan Sunday roasts are a must for us when we don't have to go home. Sunday afternoon was Alan's shooting school for the children. They all had great fun and terrible aims.

Monday we woke up to grey skies and the threat of rain. Everyone was up and off quite early for fear of getting stuck. We are never up or off early. Thankfully, after two days of lots of sun, everyone got off by themselves. Thank you to our marshals Alan & Julie and Adam, Ela, Summer & Jamie. We had a great weekend, at a beautiful venue. We will definitely return if it's in the program again.
