Fishy Tales
Our marshals this weekend were Kevin & Dawn who have now organised this event for 10 years. They were very ably assisted by Lynn & Den who themselves have been very active in running events, this is one of three consecutive weekend where they have marshalled. They all will be due a well earned rest soon.
As the members arrived they were warmly welcomed and settled into their pitches. With views over the lake in one direction and open fields to the other, this very open space made for a relaxing weekend.

This weekend hosted the last of the fishing matches on one of its two lakes.
An exciting climax to the season was expected as the points were very close and a good win today could clinch that cherished 1st place.

This lake contains some large fish, so every time one was caught it was to be weighed and quickly and gently put back into the water.
For this to happen we needed a non fishing person who was happy to run around the lake with the scales.
There was only one volunteer for the job … Den!
Fit as a butchers dog and fast as Usain Bolt.
After a slow start the fish started to bite, the shout DEN! Went up on many occasions and Den set off at pace with scales in hand. He run the lake most of the day and certainly earned his bacon rolls by the end.
Steve had purchased a new fishing chair and today was its 1st run out. Much fuss was made about the chair as it had a kind of aurora about.
It performed annoying well as Steve caught fish after fish after fish!
If fact he did so well it was decided that the chair under go investigation to decide if it had some magical powers!
Although it passed the test, there was just something about it!
At 3pm the adults match finished and the smaller fish were weighed in. It was no surprise that Steve had won after all he did have some magical help!

3pm also was the start of the Juniors match, they were so excited as they cast their lines for the first time. Supervised by parents and experienced fishers, they were soon catching tiddlers and enjoying the experience.
They all caught lots of fish and learned to manage on their own very quickly.
Soon the fishing was over for every one, a good day was had by all.
Those that explored the local sights returned, the fishing people freshened up and then thoughts turned to the communal BBQ.
Tables and BBQ’s set in a line to create what is always a highlight of these events. Food served and drinks were enjoyed on this once again warm and pleasant evening.
Tanya stood and thanked the marshals for their hard work and announced some club news.
It is always nice when the land owner welcomes us to their venue. On this occasion, Karen donated a trophy to the annual winner of the fishing match on her lake. This trophy is in memory of her late husband Tom, thank you Karen
